Return to the magical place where hope and friendship grow. Back To The Secret Garden, the sequel inspired by the classic children's tale, The Secret Garden, leads us into a magical world of hope and friendship on a grand adventure for the entire family.
I just finished reading the original book. I wanted to READ the original classic before watching the movie. So often our imaginations are inhibited from "dreaming" of the pictures that could be painted in our "mind's eye" by authors who effectively spark our imaginations from well-written prose. I found this sequel as uplifting and in the closing as "beautiful" as the book. But the beauty is not only skin deep. It is definitely a movie worth watching NOW in our current culture because of the thoughtful and caring comments and actions of the characters. So many of our children have been losing their way. They need to see and experience things that are uplifting and lead them in a more proper direction. A world with spoiled children and spoiled adults is not a pretty place to live. I suggest you watch the 1993 version and this sequel with your children or grandchildren and talk about it.Great find and such a great value. I personally like the movie I thought it was cuteI have seen all of these movies from different years & each is magical! A great story for both adults & children who desire to see a very nice movie!A lovely sequel to the originalThis is a great movie, worth ten stars just like "The Secret Garden"Our beloved child characters from the book (and first movie) are grown up. Mary Lennox is now the mistress of the manor, married to Colin, her cousin, who is now Ambassador to the United States. They have no children of their own, so have turned the manor into a loving orphanage.Martha, the child servant from the earlier movie, is now the chief servant, running the manor and the orphanage. Her free-spirited brother died during the war.As the movie starts, Mary is preparing to join her husband in the United States, and as part of getting treatment for a disabled child, arranges an orphan exchange with an orphanage in the United States that can help the English child with needed surgeries. Mary meets a child who, like herself, seems to love gardens even more than the people around her. She becomes the next child to come to the Secret Garden from across the ocean, just like Mary came across the ocean from India in the first movie.Meanwhile, Martha, no longer the child she once was, either chronologically or at heart, cannot find her way into the garden. The key does not work for her. The door hides itself from her view, so she has her own door built into the wall. Our new hero discovers the garden, discovers a friend who also loves the garden, learns more about herself, and eventually even convinces Martha that she is the right child to inherit the garden's responsibilities.Jealousies do abound, but eventually everything works for the good of the garden, and the garden blossoms and grows, just as our characters blossom and grow.I heartily recommend this movie to you. It will "grow" on you.A true family classic, brought me back to when I was a kid. Mystery and Magic what else do you need?I personally love the secret garden, all the the movies. This story never gets old no matter which version you watch. A classic to go back to as my grandchildren are of an age to sit and watch with meSuch A Truely Magical Story,Which Puck's Up Where The Original Story "The Secret Garden" Leaves Off!! Lady Mary The Little Orphan From India Is Now Grown Up,As Is Martha Her Trusted Servent & Best Friend (Joan Plowright) & Together They Run The Orphanage Between Them!! It's When Lady Mary Visit's America & Meet's A Mysterious Young Girl Who She Send's Back Home To The Orphanage In England Where All The Magic Of The Secret Garden & It's Key To It's Door Suddenly All Begum's Once More!!This is probably the best adaptation I have come across. It is faithful to the book and, like the book, manages mostly to avoid sentimentality. The acting is excellent anf Frances Hodgson Burnett's characters are brought to life. Special mention should be made of Sarah Hollis Andrews who is a captivating 'Mistress Mary quite contrary'. The choice of music - Ronald Binge's 'The Watermill' and Carl Neilson's 'The Fog is Lifting' - both complement the film beautifully.Very gooda beautiful story that you can watch over and over again and never get tired of it.Its a good film happy
